The Global Entrepreneurship Summer School is a collaborative project of the four leading university-based Entrepreneurship Centers in Munich as well as the Social Entrepreneurship Academie – that’s why they believe in the power of entrepreneurial thinking for a better and sustainable future.

During the Summer School the student teams develop ideas that have both a sustainable impact for society and a self-sustaining, profitable business model. The students learn about entrepreneurship, develop their own sustainable business ideas and build a long-lasting network of international excellent and entrepreneurial students. The Global Entrepreneurship Summer Schools fosters the important role of education, entrepreneurship and networking for a sustainable development.

Eligibility:

  • You can apply as undergraduate or graduate of all university studies e.g.: design, computer science, business economics, humanities, social sciences etc.
  • You have to be enrolled in any university at any time during 2015 and you have to be aged between 18 – 27 years. For example: If you are enrolled only until February 2015 you can apply even if you won’t be enrolled in September 2015. “Enrolled” applies in our definition also to MBA or PhD students.

Global Scholarships:

We may cover parts of travel expenses of selected international students who are invited to Munich. You can apply for 1 of 10 travel scholarships after being selected. We will cover 50% of your travel expenses, with a maximum of 500 Euro. You will get the grant in cash during your stay in Munich.

Accommodation:

Participants won’t have to pay for their accommodation. We will provide your accommodation from Sep 15 until Sep 25 either in student dorms or in private rooms at participants’ places from Munich. If you want to arrive earlier or stay longer in Munich, please take care of it by yourself.

Food & travel in Munich:

We will provide for some exclusive dinners as well as many snacks and coffee during the whole week.

Application:

This year, we will accept 35 outstanding students from around the world who will get an invitation to Munich. In addition we will accept 15 virtual participants. All applications will go through a very strict, but fair selection process. You can fill out the Application Form online and attach the required documents and answers.

The Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) 14-18 March 2014 (Sendai, Japan)

In 2014 Youth Beyond Disasters formed in partnership with the UNISDR to mobilize children and youth in the build up to the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. Through the mobilization, the network seeks to unify and build on the work of UNESCO, Eubios Ethics Institute, partner Universities, agencies and other people dedicated to taking simple steps to lessen the impact natural hazards like storms, fires, floods and earthquakes have on our communities.

The Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held from 14 to 18 March 2015 in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Several thousand participants are expected, including at related events linked to the World Conference under the umbrella of building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters.

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution for 2013 on International Strategy for Disaster Reduction states that the World Conference will result in a concise, focused, forward-looking, and action-oriented outcome document and will have the following objectives:

  • To complete assessment and review of the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action;
  • To consider the experience gained through the regional and national strategies/institutions and plans for disaster risk reduction and their recommendations as well as relevant regional agreements within the implementation of the Hyogo Framework of Action;
  • To adopt a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction;
  • To identify modalities of cooperation based on commitments to implement a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction; and
  • To determine modalities to periodically review the implementation of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction.

Science Journalism Student Award

Description

The Society for Neuroscience, founded in 1969, is the world’s largest organization of scientists and physicians devoted to understanding the brain and nervous system. The SfN is now announcing  the “Science Journalism Student Award”, which enables students pursuing a science or medical journalism degree to attend the SfN’s annual meeting in Washington. The winners are assigned a mentor who is an experienced professional journalist covering the annual meeting and also SfN media staff are available to advise award recipients how to navigate and report on the meeting.

Eligibility

This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in or have recently completed (within the past calendar year) formal education in science or medical journalism; formal education in general journalism and can adequately demonstrate the intent to primarily cover science or medicine; or formal education in a scientific or medical field and can adequately demonstrate the intent to primarily cover science or medicine.

Awards

Two winners will have the opportunity to attend the Society for Neuroscience’s annual meeting in Washington. The award includes free registration, four nights’ lodging and $750 (approx. €580) to defray additional costs. Each winner will receive guidance from a professional journalist covering the meeting and an orientation to covering the event.

Application

Interested applicants must submit the following materials:

  • CV;
  • Cover letter describing applicant’s career goals and how attending the meeting will help achieve them;
  • Two published clips;
  • Letter of recommendation from an instructor or professor.

The United States Institute of Peace’s Africa’s Generation Change Program is dedicated to empowering and building the capacity of civically engaged youth as they emerge as leaders in their communities. By providing specialized leadership and conflict resolution training, Generation Change aims to provide youth leaders with the skills needed to increase community trust, promote constructive conversations, and offer alternatives to resolving conflict without violence.

The Generation Change network of youth leaders across the country will serve as a platform for the free exchange of ideas across borders and cultures, a community of peers and mentors, and a resource for participants in moments of crisis.

Generation change Africa Program:
Generation Change’s Africa regional leadership development program will provide participants with leadership and conflict resolution training in order for these emerging leaders to increase their resilience and have a greater impact on their respective communities. The training will provide a safe space for participants to share ideas, gain new tools, practice constructive conversations, and better understand conflict resolution, especially as it relates to the Africa. It will also expose participants to experts in the leadership development and conflict resolution fields.

Additionally, the training will enable participants to build a network of civic youth leaders in their region and internationally. Upon completing the training, participants will join Generation Change’s global network of emerging civic leaders and will have access to various resources provided by USIP.

Candidate Eligibility:
To apply, applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 18-35
  • Have had residence in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda for 3 years.
  • Have a leadership role in a community organization.
  • Possess a willingness to participate and learn from peers and facilitators

The African Economic Conference 2014 focusing on the Challenges and Opportunities of Fostering Enhanced Skills, Technology and Innovation Development in Africa invites conference papers for presentation. The conference will take place from 1 to 3 November 2014 in Abidjan, Nigeria.

The primary objectives of the conference are to- promote knowledge management as an important driver of policy dialogue, good policy planning and implementation; foster dialogue that promotes the exchange of ideas and innovative thinking among researchers, development practitioners and African policymakers; encourage and enhance research on economic and policy issues related to the development of African economies; provide an opportunity for young African researchers, Africans in the Diaspora, regional and sub-regional organizations to disseminate their research findings as well as share information with African policymakers on the work they do in the region.
